Expressing Yourself With Nail Art

By Christine J Laur

The art of fingernail decoration has been around for such a long time. What we call nail art these days actually originated from way, way back when people discovered the use of enamel and started painting their fingernails. More and more people at present are getting hooked on nail art because of the color variations and different looks that you can achieve by just painting your fingernails.

Women in general have at one time or the other tried painting their nails with their favorite colors. Nail art is now more complicated though, and we can see a wide range of methods on nail painting that weren't available to people before. Air brushing and gel enhancements are the trends that we usually encounter, although these are more expensive than the normal polish we are used to.

People who regularly put polish on their nails used to apply just one shade of color for all their nails. With the advent of various shades in every color imaginable, a lot of people have been experimenting with how to improve this kind of art and take it to the next level. These days, a single color just won't do the trick; we see flower designs, rhinestones, glitter, and a whole lot of materials that are being glued to nails to produce a dazzling effect.

Nail art can also be an expression of one's personality. It is common to see people with a certain affiliation to a group or style actually sport a trademark color for their nails. Rock and heavy metal artists for example like wearing black nail polish as a statement, while certain women believe that red fingernails attract the opposite sex.

Latest additions to fingernail art include crystals and nail wraps with metallic finishes that are added to nails with the use of heat activation. These new methods are ready to go after a few minutes, and actually take just a fraction of the time that it usually takes when using regular nail polish. Moreover, they last longer too, since designs such as these last for a month without being prone to chipping and flaking.

Along with the development of fingernail art technology comes the improvement of nail artists as well; and we're not just talking about manicurists in this situation. Nail artists are people who have been professionally trained and excellently skilled in doing their jobs. With nail art application requiring a lot of focus and concentration, nail artists are really doing a great job of providing services to people who want to have their nails done with style.

There are others who believe that the color of the nail polish that you choose is an interpretation of how you feel during that particular time, and this is also applicable as to what type of nail art you would like to have on your nails. Whatever emotion lies beneath your choice of a nail art design though, the one thing that is certain is that nail art is truly beautiful and eye-catching.

Sally Hansen #IHeartNailArt Electric Summer

Hi all! Sally Hansen is having their #IHeartNailArt contest and this is the last month to enter. This month’s theme is Electric Summer, so these nails should be bright and full of fun neon colors that really pop!
These nails have a bright swirly design with a “cut out” near the base of the nails. This design is perfect for those who have trouble painting their nails without getting it around the cuticle area since you don’t have to paint near it :)
I started with 2 coats of Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear in White On. Leave a space near the cuticle, and the line doesn’t need to be perfect as were going to be adding the black line later!
I used a nail art brush to paint random swirls using Sally Hansen Triple Shine in Dive In, Statemint, and Pixie Slicks.
After my nail art dried, I added a black line between my design and my nail with Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Black Out.
Lastly, top it off with your Triple Shine top coat to seal in your mani and give it a gorgeous shine! Still need some more help? I’ve made a tutorial!
Be sure to enter the Sally Hansen #IHeartNailArt contest at www.sallyhansen.com for a chance to win $500 and a trip to New York! In New York you will compete in a live contest for a chance to win another $2000! See official rules for details, no purchase necessary.

Thinking Manicure or Pedicure Goes Beyond Deep- Nail Art Design Ideas

With the undeniable obsession women posses with their nails and especially considering how often the process demands repetition, it is only logical to say that they highly invest in them. A regular visit to the manicurist sees you spending quite a load considering its just nails. With the repelling perception stating that men will hardly notice when your nails are amicably done ladies, tell me who said we do it for the man ego? Doing your nails I believe should rather be driven by a ‘selfish’ motivation of knowing how good it feels to have your nails dazzling and the overall complement they accord your appearance. While nail art is highly associated with celebrity figures, it’s only reasonable for the fans to want to emulate them and hence the artificial nail art designs are trending higher by day. From gel to acrylic nails, the need for elegance and definition is a fact dominating the feminine gender.

When it comes to nails art designs to implement there are a variety of designs to consider:

Paint Decoration Nail Art Designs

This in essence is the most popular nail art technique involving paints for decoration. Performed by professionals, this design is adorned on dry nail polish using professional brushes, needles and sticks. The base coat paint for this technique can either be lacquer or aqueous.

 Nail Beading Art Design

Beaded nail designs pose sophistication and is mostly considered during red carpet, gala and other distinguished events. With a variety of colors to choose from, beaded nails designs are however usually done in white. On the other hand, to achieve jewel tones on the nails, two or three dark shiny tones can be used.

How To Use Nail Art Accessories to Create Unique Designs

How To Use Nail Art Accessories to Create Unique Designs By Karen S Musselman
Many people may think of beauty accessories as being makeup and hair styles; however nail art accessories can be added to this list as well for complementing your whole look with some added sparkle and style to your hands.
And it doesn't matter how long or short your nails are, adding a touch of sparkle or style to plain nail polish may just draw attention to your other accessories like rings and bangle bracelets.
Having a variety of nail art accessories on hand has become a hit trend among many women to update their everyday French manicure with some French manicure designs, for example, using nail wraps only on the tips of the nails.
All over the country nail studios are opening their doors offering beautiful and unique manicures. And fashion blogs have been touting celebrities with some of their outrageous nail designs too, like Lady Gaga's lace nails in her videos.
But you don't have to be a professional technician or even have a natural talent at doing salon manicures to have beautiful nails. You can actually create salon perfect nails in your own home with a few inexpensive nail art accessories that mirror the quality of the professional freehand designs at the salons, but at a mere fraction of the cost.
A perfect manicure will definitely make your hands look and feel great but if you add even the simplest designs to your nails, you'll stand out from the basic and boring as someone who really knows and loves style. The right accessories can even add an amazingly stylish touch and complement the colors of the outfits you wear also.

There are too many design accessories available today to even begin to make a complete list. But some of the more popular and trendy are things like Fimo art, designer nail wraps like foils, 3D nail stickers with fake gems, and designer nail tips. In fact, you can even buy molded designs specifically made just for creating 3D nail art or you can pierce your nails and add dangling jewelry.
Any of these accents will provide you with virtually unlimited choices for create stunning designs yourself or for salon professionals who are looking to offer new ideas to their clients. For example, 3D nail stickers can add sparkle and shine to a classic French manicure. In fact, design stickers come in so many varieties you can mix and match the designs, and create an accent nail on each hand that's subtly different from the others. So you could apply lace 3D stickers to all but the ring finger on each hand and place gemstones on those accent nails.
Stickers are fun and convenient since you can apply them quickly, add a fast-drying top coat and you're out the door with a fresh-looking manicure that's coordinated in color and design to the outfit you're wearing that day. Remove them later and change up the design for an evening out on the town, removing only the top coat and sticker.
Another fun and creative technique in the nail art accessories arena is Fimo art, available in just about every shape you can imagine, from simple abstract designs through complex looking fruits and animals.
But using Fimo art is so simple, just anyone who's into beginners nail art can use Fimo art and give themselves a very unique and interesting manicure that everyone will want to see and talk about.
Nail gems in the way of faux gemstones that adhere to the nail with polish or dangles that require the tip of the nail to be pierced, are also a great options for adding some pizzazz to your manicure. Piercings are becoming popular for nails today too, especially with younger people who want more than just their ears pierced.
If you're not careful in doing your own nail piercing, however, you may split your nail, while although not dangerous at all, it just means you'll either have to cut your nail and allow it to regrow or replace it with an artificial tip until your natural nail grows out again.
Nail techs can also offer their clients time-saving colorful French manicures by using pre-polished, pre-designed artificial nail tips. Artificial nails today are so natural looking that even the do-it-yourself artist can apply them from home and walk out with gorgeous, natural looking nails. The best faux nails and nail tips are applied with a special formulation of "super glue" and when applied correctly, can last for weeks.
